How To Plan A Great Staycation

Now that summer is on its way, the pressure starts to set in to plan a great family vacation. Of course, the intention of a vacation is for it to be something fun and memorable; but if money is tight, a vacation can also end up being something stressful for the parents. When money is tight, one great solution is to plan a “staycation” – a vacation at home – instead of planning one for which you will have to travel.

Setting the dates and making sure everyone recognizes that these days will be treated the same as if you were on vacation is the first step to planning a staycation. This can be a tough sell with teenagers, as they will sometimes tell you that a staycation is a “lame” idea, and that they would rather go hang out with their friends. But if you want to have a successful staycation, it will be important that you make sure everyone is around; your kids should not be off with their friends, and you and your spouse should not be off shopping or playing golf!

101 Great Staycations!

Keeping the staycation shorter than a regular vacation would be is also a big key, as this will make it easier to convince everyone to be around. If you would maybe take a week-long vacation were you to travel, shorten this to a four day vacation if you are staying at home. And when you think about it, two days of your travel vacation is usually travel, so your staycation is actually still providing you with plenty of time.

And the biggest thing left to do once you have the days set aside and have convinced everyone to be there is making sure you have things planned to do. If you have a staycation that just forces everyone to sit around the house, they will be on the phone, in front of the television, with a book, et cetera. Plan games for the time when everyone is at home, and plan events away from the house – just like a real vacation!

Lots of people end up saying that their staycations are the best vacations they have ever taken; if you plan properly, you can feel the same way!

When you say “sit” does your dog give you that “there’s no way I’m going to do what you say” look? When you’re taking him for a walk does he tug and pull and make you half run to the park? If the answer is “yes” then you need to learn some dog training techniques. They are harmless and aid free ways to train your dog to listen to what you have to say to him.

There is one dog training technique which I have tried and tested and it is great. It’s called the “Nothing in life is free” technique. It basically works on the fact that nothing is free, your dog has to do something to get something in return. For example if he wants food he has to remain seated until you make his dinner, or if you want to talk him for a walk then he has to lie down until you put his leash and collar on. These training techniques all are based on the fact that your dog will realise to get what he wants he has to do what you are telling him to do. What if he doesn’t do it? Walk away. Don’t shout at him or keep trying if he doesn’t listen just ignore him and walk away then about 5 minutes later go back and try again. He soon comes to realise that you are in charge and he has to do what you say to get what wants.

When dogs are born they usually have siblings and their mother is the “Leader of the pack”, when a young dog leaves his mother he starts to think that he is free and can do what he wants. When he first joins a family he starts to act dominant. He tries to be leader of the house. You can’t let him gain this position you need to show him through dog training techniques that humans are the head of your house not the dog. He does not have to be aggressive to get what he wants. Sometimes dogs use the sympathetic approach using their puppy dog eyes. This is just another attempt at trying to get higher in the dominance hierarchy and you can’t let them get ahead of you.

When it comes to kids dog’s see them more as playmates than masters as children can get down to their height and play with them, under adult supervision when your child gets to around the age of nine you can start to teach them to use dog training techniques so they can show the dog that when they ask him to do something he has to listen to them, not just listen to you.

Dog training techniques are extremely efficient and very simple to carry out, the training doesn’t even seem like training it just requires repetition and you dog will soon catch on that nothing in life is free!

Misbehaving Dogs

Bad behaviour in dogs can consist of many problems. Does he bark all night long and keeps you from sleeping? Are you afraid he is going to keep biting? Does he chew everything except his toys? If the answer to any of these questions are yes you need to invest some time into a little bit of dog behaviour training. A little training will go a long way.

Dogs that bark can be extremely irritating but the main thing is not to loose your cool, if you shout at him he will try to shout louder than you. Try and find out the cause of his barking. Is he barking because he is afraid? Is he happy? Is there someone out there? If you can’t find the reason for the barking then he is doing it because he doesn’t know it is wrong to bark all the time. This is where dog behaviour training comes in. There are lots of products available to help dogs with constant barking, there are special collars which gives them the tiniest of electric shocks so they know that it isn’t good to bark.

A biting dog is maybe one of the more serious behaviour problems, especially now that the laws are tightened and any dog that bites someone is more than likely to get put down. Teaching your dog not to bite is one of the most important teachings you can give him. This is where you have to be firm and stick to your guns. When playing with a young dog they will automatically nip and gnaw at your hand this is because when dogs play together they play with their mouths. When teaching your dog not to bite stroke him with one hand while offering something which is acceptable to be bitten with the other hand, something like a chew toy or a raw hide treat. Your dog will soon realise that hands aren’t there for biting. This process has to be done repeatedly for it to take effect.

Dog behaviour training is simple enough for the experienced dog lover but when it comes to beginners all the help available is needed. Accept help from friends and family and maybe even enroll in a dog behaviour training class, this will help you to meet other people, having the same problems with their dogs that you are with yours. You are not alone when it comes to having trouble with dog behaviour problems. Every dog will get them, it’s just a matter of how you fix them.

Dog Training Tips

When it comes to dog training there are no secrets. Every dog training tip is different but it has been used before and if they say its new, it means adapted. The simplest of tasks for an experienced dog master could be the hardest of tasks for the beginner. There are no magic potions, or miracle sayings that can make your dog do what you want. You have to spend time with him, loving him and training him.

Many people seem to “have a way with dogs” in the sense that they can ask your dog to do anything and your dog will adhere to their command straight away, you try it five minutes later and your dog just stares at you blankly. It is true that some people have more of a chance getting dogs to do what they say, not because of some aura around them but because of experience and tone of voice.

One great dog training tip is your tone of voice. Your dog needs to know that you mean business but he has to know that you’re not angry at him. The handler must find a tone of voice that shows dominance but compassion. If you are constantly shouting at your dog he is going to get used to it, he will not know when he is doing something wrong because he doesn’t know when he is doing something good.

A lot of praise and attention is another great dog training tip. Dogs wont learn the difference between good and bad unless they get treated differently. When your dog does something bad don’t roar at him, strictly tell him he was bad and not to do it again. Then when he does it right shower him with cuddles, treats and praise. Dogs come to learn that when they do something that they are told they will get rewarded for it and then after a while it just becomes second nature to them, of course praise is still needed!

All dog training tips are different and one dog is not identical to the next, so try them. It won’t hurt to keep trying. The most influence on your dog’s life is when they are 3-16 weeks; this is the time that moulds them into the kind of dog they are going to be when they grow bigger. When you train your dog in these weeks this is what he will be doing for the rest of his life. Make sure you try a variety of the dog training tips available to you, some may work some may not but at least your giving your dog the best start in life.

How to Train Your Puppy

Get a FREE web site! | Mobil Marketing For your business! | Advertise your business for FREE! | Make money giving away Free web sites! | Cheap banner ads! | Cheap text ads!

A new puppy in the home excites everyone especially children but make sure you got the puppy for a good reason and not just on a spur of the moment feeling. Like they say dogs are for life not just for Christmas. A puppy can bring lots of happy memories and times but they have a lot of training and work involved to, they are not all fun and no work!

A puppy’s temperament depends on where the puppy has been brought up and what type of breed he is. German shepherds, Rottweilers, bull dogs and boxers are all guard type dogs so tend to be very loving and protective. Border and bearded collies tend to be herding dogs and reared on farms and tend to be quite enthusiastic and never sit still (be aware because they are reared on a farm they may be a little bit nervous around modern day technologies, such as bridges, loud noises etc). Labradors, gun dogs and pointer are all hunting dogs so expect them to be full of energy and laughable moments. Of course these are just general expectations every dog has its day…and its personality!

Puppy dog training is something that can be achieved in a matter of weeks depending how much time and attention you spend on it. You don’t need to train for hours and hours a day, a few minutes several times a day is all it takes. The first thing you need to train your new puppy in is obedience, commands like sit, come, heel, stay and fetch are basic enough for them to learn. As they get older you can incorporate commands like paw, roll over and play dead! Training a young puppy is not as hard as you may think as they are like a blank sheet of paper waiting to be written on. The way and things that that they are taught will stick to them and will influence them later on in life, although training isn’t forever so you need spend a few minutes every day just to keep reminding them what to do.

There are not so nice consequences involved when puppies aren’t trained, for a start your house will constantly be a toiler ground for them and your furniture will have massive holes in it. Puppies are like babies and need to be taught the difference between right and wrong, to do this you need some puppy dog training!

Many handlers experienced or in-experienced are turning towards training products and aids but training can be done without these methods. Just a bit of good old hard work! A puppy may take several months to training but when it is complete the rewards will be well worth it, but don’t forget to top up on your training for several minutes each day or your dog will slowly forget and you’ll have to start all over again, with an even bigger task, training an older dog!

How to House Train Your Dog

When scolding your dog for doing the toilet on the carpet remember that we were once young and did not use the proper toilet either. Your dog needs to be house trained, and this can be done in a few easy steps, but over a long period of time.

Dog house training may be one of the hardest training techniques as it is the one that requires the most attentiveness and work. You have to be able to read your dog’s body signals as he can’t tell you when he needs the toilet. Many people make the mistake of assuming that their dog will bark when he needs the loo, sometimes they are lucky to find a dog that will but believe me there are many out there who don’t and accidents are found all over the house!

Dog house training requires a few simple steps as I said but they are time consuming ones. Firstly I would recommend putting newspaper in front of the door, that way if you see him doing an accident in the house you can quickly life him there and he will realise that if he needs to go and your not there to let him he has to do it on paper.

The next thing you need to know when dog house training is most dogs when they need the toilet will start to get restless and stat sniffing around, this is when you pick them up and take them outside, when they are really young you should take him outside at least once every hour. When you take them outside you can say things “do the toilet” or “do your business” or whatever command you want to use for your doing going out to do the toilet. Once they have done the toilet you must give them lots of affection outside straight away (of course it’s best to wait until they are done) They will soon come to realise that outside is the place to do the toilet and will after some time start asking to go out.

There are hundreds of books available on dog house training all of which use different techniques and routines. No dog is going to know straight away that outside is the place to do the toilet, they have to learn and you have to teach them (unless you don’t mind accidents all over the place) Oh and don’t forget to scoop!!

Dog Training Books

Does your dog need a good seeing to? Does he act inappropriately? Those are just a couple of questions many people are answering in dog training books. Hundred of people are writing books on dog training as it is such a big market. Many people struggle to train their dogs on their own and people love the fact that they can make a profit out of it. I’m not saying that it is wrong to write a dog training book and charge for it, it’s good that there are book resources available.

There are people writing dog training books that have never actually owned a dog and the nonsense they blether is quite funny but then you get the serious writers. People that have had about 30 years of dog training experience are putting their knowledge onto paper and making it available to the whole world which is fantastic. Many people need guidance when it comes to teaching their dog basic training and books are a great way to learn. You just have to be careful you are purchasing a book from a genuine dog trainer and not someone who can paint a pretty simple picture of dog training, because a pretty simple picture is not what dog training is about.

One of my favourite books was “Help! My dog has an attitude” written by Gwen Bohnenkamp. This book is an excellent read and full of great tips and advice. She tells you about the problems that dogs are facing in an ever growing scary world and the pressures it puts on dogs, whether it are trains that are rushing past, cars that are coming to close or even the drain in the middle of the street making that funny loud gurgling noise! There is one thing about her book, it makes you realise that a lot of a dog problems are made by us, we drive our dogs to do these things but we are oblivious to it, thank goodness she doesn’t make you feel guilty about it though!

Whereas “The Dog Whisperer” written by Paul Owens is one of the books I was telling you about earlier, where people that have had no experience with dogs put pen to paper. He writes about the simplest of training techniques and then fills his book full of psycho-babble about how to treat your dog and how to love him, that’s not what a dog training book should be about. It has had a good few write ups but I think it is not worth the money or time to read it. He starts of going on about how Jesus and Buddha might train their dogs and then goes on about how he felt spiritual enlightenment and a feeling of pure love for his dog. Basically he is a nut case!

Dog training books are easy enough to get and if you enjoy a good read then sit down to one, have a cup of coffee and get prepared for the next days step; actually training your dog!

Train Your Dog To Heel with a Leash

Important – When you take the leash off, remember the following:
Your dog should not run off, with you chasing vainly behind, yelling for Fido to come back.

Yes, if you want Fido to free heal, you must have your dog trained to heal on the leash first.

This is how you need to start;

Take your dog off it’s leash

Walk in a straight line. (Angling into your dog will cause her to heel wide.)

Walk briskly! Don’t walk at the pace of your dog.

Don’t wave your hands about – hold your LEFT hand close to your body!

Make sure you always give the first command in a happy tone of voice.(Your dog needs to know that you are happy – don’t try to teach your dog anything if you are in a bad mood.)

Change your voice to a commanding tone or call your dog’s name sharply if they don’t keep up to your walking pace or if they amble away.

AFTER the second command, gently pat your side and give praise.(Give praise at every opportunity)

If forging (Fido tries to get ahead of you) is your problem, or if your dog attempts to dart off, you must stand still! Signal back with your left hand and repeat the heel command forcefully, then pat your side coaxingly.

Remember, training your dog is not unlike training your child to behave in a way society expects. Give them rules and bounderies. Be firm about what is right and what is not. Praise whenever you have an opportunity, That is, whenever you dog performs as asked.

When your dog is doing a good job of learning, give it the commendation it deserves! Praise it while it is actually learning and performing well.

If the dog you are training is large, make sure you carry the leash folded twice, with the snap end in your RIGHT hand. If the dog fails to pay attention, call her name loudly or reach out and “spank” her playfully on the hindquarters with the end of the leash. You should then coax your dog close by patting your side. (Never hit hard or in such a way that you cause you dog pain. Just the LIGHT spank is all that’s needed)

If all attempts to keep your dog at heel position fail, it’s time to put the leash back on, give it ONE good jerk to bring the dog in close, and try again. The change in voice, followed by flattery, with the occasional use of the leash, should eventually teach your dog to stay at your side at all times. Especially if you make the heeling fun!

Tips For Going Blueberry Picking

One of the most fun things you can do with a weekend morning or afternoon is to go blueberry picking, and if you have found a nearby place where you will be able to do this, you might think the only thing you have to do in order to have a great day is simply “head out and start picking.” And while it is true that blueberry picking is an uncomplicated adventure, there are still a few things you will want to make sure you keep in mind before you head out, in order to ensure that you have the best blueberry picking experience possible!

Wear old clothes: This is one you will want to make sure you adhere to, as you can be as careful as possible while blueberry picking, and you will still not only be likely to get the clothes you are wearing dirty, but will even be likely to ruin them; with dirt and sharp branches and messy blueberries everywhere around you, you will want to make sure you wear old clothes.

If you are going blueberry picking make sure you check out these 101 blueberry recipes!

Protect against sunburn: When you are blueberry picking, you will not be able to find much shade, and since you will be bending over and picking berries much of the time you are out there, you will put your ears and the back of your neck at risk of terrible sunburn; make sure you put on sunscreen before going, and reapply throughout the day if you are out there for a long time!

Protect your back: If you are not careful, the constant “bending over and standing back up” of blueberry picking can really make your back hurt; make sure you use your legs as much as possible (squatting down instead of bending down), and give your legs and your back frequent breaks so that you do not end up with a “back ache souvenir” in addition to your blueberries!

It will not be difficult for your blueberry picking adventure to end up turning into something miserable – but it is also easy to protect against this happening, so make sure you pay attention to these tips, and you will be able to have fun blueberry picking, without the bad stuff that can come with it.

The Absolute Best Way to Cook Hot Dogs

Many feelings to different people are brought on by the warmth of summer. Some may feel like it is time to go to the beach. Grilling season may be the thought that others have. Most realize that it is time to enjoy some time out at the ball park watching a baseball game. One of the most enjoyable parts of all these activities are the unique foods involved. There is one though that is a staple of them all; the hot dog.

There are many different ways to cook a hot dog. They can be grilled over some flame, popped into the microwave oven, or boiled in a pot. At the pool, beach, and baseball park though the hot dog is especially enjoyable since it is rolled on hot rollers instead. There is something that makes cooking a hot dog this way a little bit more enjoyable. It is a shame that people cannot enjoy this type of hot dog more often and during any season.

A hot dog that is rolled at home is no a definite possibility. Cooking hot dogs in this unique way can now be done by using a nostalgia hot dog roller. Four hot dogs that are foot longs or up to eight hot dogs of normal size can be made on this roller. Keeping buns toasty and warm using a built in warmer will allow you to experience hot dogs in the full way. After you are done cooking you can easily clean all of the parts as well. The parts are taken down easily so the process of cleaning is easy.

Using this type of cooking device for only one meal of the day is a waste. You can also enjoy cooking sausage in the morning for breakfast. Why use it to only cook hot dogs for other meals? You can cook up some polish sausages, Italian sausages, and bratwurst as well. Any type of sausage that can roll around can be cooked on your new roller!
